The starting point of my Soup Project is culture and family. As culture is a very broad concept, I chose to focus on one of its most fundamental and everyday subtopics: food culture. Within food culture, I wanted to concentrate on a single dish in order to explore it in depth. At this stage, I chose soup. Soup exists in almost every culture, has hundreds of variations, and its history goes back to ancient times. It is economically accessible, nourishing, and usually simple to prepare. As I researched further, I realised that soup is also a binding and unifying element. For this reason, it appears in many social and community-based projects as a shared practice that brings people together.

Today, many families are moving away from cooking at home. This can be due to a lack of time, or the perception that cooking is complicated and demanding. However, home cooking is not only about feeding the body; it also helps maintain family warmth, strengthens family memories, and has a positive psychological impact on children in particular.

With this in mind, my project focuses primarily on children, as they are a central and influential part of the family unit. I aim to design objects and visual materials that encourage children to engage with soup in a positive and playful way, making the experience more enjoyable for them. At the same time, I plan to create simple visual tools that communicate to families that making soup at home is not only economical, but also accessible and achievable.
